It is exactly 40 years since the Soweto uprising.
Common Good, an NGO that seeks to boost Employment, Education and Early Childhood Development, is hosting a series of posts from students, academics and others. The idea is to compare and contrast how far we have come as a nation, but also how far we still need to go.
I was invited to write the first post and you can read it here. I quote from Herbert Simon, a new hero of mine, who won a Nobel Prize for Economics and was also one of the founders of Artificial Intelligence and computer programming (his book, Models of my life, is in UCT library).
By learning from the heroes of 40 years ago, we can continue to build a great nation. Nkosi sikelel’ iAfrika.
